Events: Fall Symposium

The City of Virginia Beach and Old Dominion University will host a low cost, high value Fall Symposium at the Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel. The goal of the event is to provide creative, innovative ideas and opportunities that will help us through these severe economic times.

The topics have been selected with a focus on programs that project procurement as value added, particularly in the areas of generating revenue, cost avoidance and measuring procurement value. The speakers are nationally recognized due to their knowledge, creativity, leadership and success in implementing cutting edge programs.

Essay Contest

VAGP is looking for creative, innovative, cost saving ideas or programs implemented in your organization within the last year that have increased the efficiency and effectiveness of procurement programs, saved tax payer dollars and helped your organization survive economic uncertainty. The idea or program must be applicable to public procurement in some manner and generate measurable benefits. Essays shall be 3 to 5 double spaced, typed pages. In addition, please include any reference reports, graphs, or charts that support the success and value of your program(s).

Submissions are due by Friday, September 24, 2010. Submissions should be sent to Etta Henry, Old Dominion University. Clearly identify your e-mail with VAGP Essay Contest in the subject line. The winner will receive a complimentary VAGP Symposium/Conference registration valid through October 2011!

Special Events: Wii Olympics

The Wii Olympics Fundraiser event hosted by the VAGP Foundation was a great success, raising a total of $221.00. Gift Card Winners were: Doug Crenshaw, Best Wii Fitness Score and Best Bowler; Linda Via, Best Heavyweight Boxing; and Kelly Okken, Most Physically Challenged Wii Player.
